The Bucket

“Don’t drop it in the hatch”

We were on petticoats* and I was winching a bucket of salt water up the mast for fun and to test how strong the rope jammer was. A rope jammer is just what it sounds like, a non-electronic device that jams rope, it holds the spinnaker and other things up.

The jammer was strong the problem was the knot. I had a smaller piece of rope tied to the bow (front) of the boat. When the knot came undone the bucket of salt water flew in to the open hatch and saturated everything in its way.

“OI Seeeeton!”

“Oops sorry” I shouted back.
