Yoghurt

Which Yoghurts are Best for You?

Today we found out that yoghurt contains many things that are good for you.

It contains...
  • Calcium which helps strengthen our bones.
  • Carbohydrates which gives us long lasting energy.
  • Protein which helps our bodies grow and repair.
  • Vitamins D and A.
However, we found that many yoghurts contain lots of sugar. E.G. Fresh n Fruity Strawberry yoghurt contains 4 teaspoons of sugar per serving.

We did find some low sugar yoghurts. The best yoghurts for us are...
  • Symbio branded yoghurts
  • Cyclops natural yoghurt
  • Bio Farm branded yoghurts
  • Yoplait Greek Lite
  • Clear Water Topless Natural Yoghurt

Mathletics

V4 has been asked to trial Mathletics for Island Bay School. We all have a log in that we can use for the next two weeks. It would be great if we could use it as much as possible over the next two weeks to see if we like it.

Hard Luck

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
"Oh man, school today!"
I raise my arm and fling it onto the alarm clock but the alarm clock feels squishy and cold.  I open my eyes, blink a few times and sit up.
"Aaaarrhhh."  I've just dumped my arm in last nights custard!
I spring out of bed and start running to the bathroom.  I'm at top speed until I hit my brothers baseball bat and go flying through the air.  Suddenly, gravity kicks in and I land in the worst spot... my brothers lego and to make matters worse, he saw the whole thing and his face is turning red.
I jump up and start sprinting back to my room when... I slip on the custard and bang into the door.
"Ouch!" I stumble around.  Suddenly my brother tackles me from behind.  Next thing I know is I'm on the floor looking up at the ceiling.  I still have the gooey custard on my arm so I grab a book and I'm about to scrape it off when I remember school.
I look at the clock, 5 minutes until 9am!  I jump up forgetting that i'm wearing my pi's and race out the door skipping breakfast and grabbing my bag.
I start running to school until I find out I'm wearing my pi's.  But luckily I always have a change of clothes for this exact reason!  I run and hide behind a thick wooden pole, I zip open my bag and... they're not in there.  I start panicking!  I look at my watch; 9:07.  I decide to run home so I pick up my bad and start running until I trip and land face first in a muddy puddle.
"Yuck!"
I stand up and keep running, then to make things worse, a big dump truck comes round the corner chucking rubbish everywhere.  I feel like a magnet because about 20 bits of rubbish come flying at me like bullets.  I start running again and by the time I get home to put clothes on and get myself back to school, it's morning tea!
I run to my classroom and say that I made it.  I'm starting to wonder what I am having for lunch.  Maybe a donut, or cake, or mum's sandwich.  I zip open my bag, grab my lunchbox, click open the sides and and and... it's last nights custard arrhhh!!!

The Fall

The Fall
By Harvey Lye

“I can’t stop!” I quickly became scared. I jump over a stick... That was a massive speed gain. I knew nothing can become good of this.
SMACK!! I don’t know how it happened but somehow I’m in pain... And lots of it.
“OH MY GOD, Pete, call the ambulance!” Thank god dad brung the cellphone.
“####, #### YOU DAD!!!”
“Shhh, Harvey it’s okay” mum says softly.
“Mum I fell like this is a dream”
“It’s okay Harvey, your just in a little bit of shock”
I continue to scream curse words. I regret running up and down that big sketchy steep bank. In fact I regret going on this family walk.
I think about what there going to do to me at the hospital then I ask-
“Mum what are they going to do to me at the hospital?”
“There just going to give you a few stitches.”
“####, MUM WHY DID YOU TELL ME THAT?”
After ages of waiting the ambulance and the culprit of my injury... Dad arrived.
“What’s your name?” the ambulance driver man says.
“Harvey.”
“Okay it might sound a bit silly but all were going to do for now is put a bandage on it”
Mum pops my leg up straight while the ambulance people rap my leg in the bandage. Then they put me on a stretcher. We go the way we came. Ahhh... My old enemies... Stairs. It was a rough ride but I finally made it.

They put me into the back of the ambulance WEE OOO WEE OOO. Off we go to get my stitches.

Pop Art using Quintessential New Zealand Food Items

We have been learning about Andy Warhol and how he used food to turn into pop art.  We then brainstormed different quintessential New Zealand food items we could use to create our own pop art. We brought some different food to school so we could create our own.

And the winners are...

Emily & Oscar!!!  Congratulations!

Student council candidates

Well done to our student council candidates who gave speeches to the class as to why the students of V5 should vote them to be their representatives!
